Before You Reach Out…
If you’re anything like the people and organizations I work with, you’re probably evaluating more than one option right now. You may be wondering whether this is worth your time, whether I understand your situation, or whether a conversation would actually be useful.
Those are fair questions…let’s dive in.
1. What Exactly Do You Do?
The honest answer? It depends, and I’m not being purposefully vague here. Sometimes I’m facilitating a strategic planning process. Sometimes I’m coaching a leader. Sometimes I’m helping a team understand the challenges that have been simmering for years and develop ways to overcome them. Sometimes I’m serving as a consultant, facilitator, coach, trainer, advisor, or just a sounding board.
The title matters less than the outcome because I’m very much a results-oriented leader. My dream for starting Be Know Do was to find and partner with mission-driven people and organizations who might benefit from my experience, perspective, and tools developed over the years. I fulfill my purpose by being an advocate for the underserved, and for those having to take on the challenges of supporting a community, especially in rural America.
The bottom line is my and Be Know Do’s work is ultimately about helping people and organizations gain clarity, make better decisions, and move forward with intention.
2. How Do I Know If We’re a Good Fit?
You probably won’t immediately “know” if we fit right away, and you should run in the opposite direction if I suggested to you otherwise. Getting to know each other starts with a conversation. Maybe a brief overview or interaction via email to tee up the call, but the key will be us at a point of asking each other questions. One thing I promise is that if either of us isn’t feeling it then we will move on. Your time is too precious, and I don’t have the bandwidth to try to make something work that probably won’t.
Hiring a company to advise or partner with you to address challenges is like healthcare itself: it’s about relationships and trust. You won’t be able to sense that authenticity is a core value of mine (and, therefore, Be Know Do) without suffient time to ask questions you need to confirm or deny that sense.

3. Do You Understand Organizations Like Ours?
Possibly to likely enough to have a semi-intelligent conversation with you about your challenges. I’ve worked with countless healthcare organizations, nonprofits, leadership teams, executives, boards, and community organizations over the years. And there are strong parallels between how the federal system and the military operates and business operations so that’s a source too.
One thing I’ve learned, and proven multiple times in my military and corporate careers, is that challenges that organizations and leaders have are remarkably similar. In other words, it’s a strong probability that you are not the only one who’s faced those challenges. But the exciting thing is that solutions are often very different to those same challenges. And I love taking a lesson learned from one space, flipping it on its head, and applying what makes sense in a different space. Not cookie-cutter, but enough to address core issues.
4. What Makes Your Approach Different?
It may not be in some respects. However, my need to be my authentic self in all I do spills over into Be Know Do. I think that’s its own differentiator because my approach will start off more like pure relationship building. I can’t help unless I know you and/or your organization better. The solution we develop will count on you operationalizing it, so it must be tailored to you or your organization’s perspectives, culture, SOPs, etc. in order to stick.
I may come across as colloquial or more relaxed, but that’s my comfort zone. If that results in some people or organizations moving on to other firms that’s not a bad thing. As the saying goes “Only the people who get you, deserve you.” It should be quite clear early on that I’m focused on relieving pain points. Or coaching and mentoring a leader who’d benefit from working with me. And more.
5. What Is It Like to Work With You?
Collaborative. Thoughtful. Practical. Fun but knowing when to put on our game-face. 🥷
I will have opinions that may not match yours, but I won’t be adversarial for adversarial sake. You may find me saying “I don’t know” more than once. I’ve found that admitting you don’t know something builds trust and credibility as opposed to pretending you know it but everyone else knows you don’t.
I’m going to be a partner, and if you aren’t successful then I wasn’t. I will present options and then you choose. Why? Again, because you’ll be the one executing the solutions or living through that leadership situation in the future. I may have chosen a different course of action, but that would be one I felt I could make work. It needs to work for you days, weeks, months and longer after our collaboration.
6. So, What’s the Next Step?
A conversation.
That’s it. No obligation. No assumption that we’ll work together. Just an opportunity to discuss what’s happening in your organization, what you’re hoping to accomplish, and whether Be Know Do and I might be able to help.
If it’s clear we shouldn’t partner together, at least you’ll have another lens on your situation.
